At the top of these settings, you can choose your store's cart type. This can either be:

  • Drawer, case in which you'll get the entire cart's content inside a sidebar (drawer), that appears every time a customer adds something to their cart or when they click the cart icon in the header.
  • Page, case in which the sidebar will be missed and any time a customer adds something to their cart or click the cart icon the header, they will be directed to the cart page.

If you are using apps that tap into the cart functionality, especially that require JavaScript initialization, these might not be compatible with the drawer cart.


Cart settings

Notes, discounts and shipping

  • Enable cart notes

Adds a textarea in the cart for customers to write notes related to their orders. These appear in your Shopify dashboard, associated with each order.

  • Enable cart discounts

Adds a text field in the cart for customers to write discount (coupon) codes and see the applied discounts directly in their cart. Creating discounts is a native Shopify feature and is documented in Shopify's documentation.

Shipping discounts can't be applied in the cart, they only work if applied at checkout.

  • Enable shipping calculator

Activates a shipping rates calculator, based on your shipping configurations set in Shopify Markets.

Terms and conditions

  • Enable terms and conditions checkbox

When enabled, users will not be able to click the "checkout" button on your cart without checking the proper checkbox first. You can also add a label where you can place a link to your policies.

While the checkout button is disabled, customers can still reach the checkout by manually by writing /checkout in the browser's url :)


Shipping

  • Show free shipping minimum account

Will display a progress bar towards free shipping, at the top of your cart (drawer or page). The free shipping minimum amount needs to be written as a number and is related to your store's default currency.

This feature works with markets automatically (the shipping amount is recalculated when changing the store's currency), but you cannot set different free shipping thresholds for different markets! This requires implementation via custom work or third party apps.


Gift wrapping

Gift wrapping works by creating a specific product with a single variant (so fixed price) and selecting that product here. Once done, customers will see a checkbox with your selected text, that if they check, the gift wrapping product will appear at the top of your cart.

The gift wrapping product doesn't have a quantity selector in the cart. It also misses the "remove product" button, the only way of adding it or removing it from the cart being the custom checkbox.


Media aspect ratio

  • Aspect ratio

Choose an aspect ratio that will be shared across the entire store for: cart items, search (product) items, (mini) product block, (product) hotspots, cart cross sells, and more..

  • Fit media inside container

If you don't want the cropping of your small thumbnails, you can choose to fit the media inside the chosen aspect ratio.

  • Container background

Only if media is set to fit, you will get an option to choose a color background for the empty space that results from containing your media inside a specific box.

  • Image focal point

Only if media is cropped using the aspect ratio, you can choose the focal point of these small thumbnails.

For example, if you have tall images featured models but want to save space and choose to show cart items as squares, you may want the head of the models always visible, case in which you can select the "top" focal point.
