Homepage slideshow FAQ

How to insert a video in the homepage slideshow?

First please upload your video file as a mp4 file on Shopify servers in  Settings > Files. Then, use the video URL generated there and insert it in theme customizer - Slideshow settings > Video background screenshot.

For more info, please also see this article from our theme documentation:  Homepage sections.

Because the slideshow is full-screen, how to let users know that the page also have more content?

A possible solution here is to add a "Scroll down" text (animated if you like) over the slideshow images by adding this CSS code at the end of the assets/css_main.scss.liquid file:

.slide-img:after {
    content: 'Scroll to discover';
    position: absolute ;
    color: #fff;
    font-size: 2.5vmin;
    font-family: "Avenir Next";
    bottom: 8%;
    right: 13%;
    animation-iteration-count: infinite;
    animation-name: scrollIndication;
    animation-duration: 3s;
    animation-direction: alternate-reverse;
}
@keyframes scrollIndication {
    from {opacity: 0;}
    to {opacity: 1;}
}

Why my slideshow images are cropped?

The homepage slider design in the theme is to display the images full-width, as you already know. Because of that, this means that it the images will always have a level of cropping as this is required for the fullwidth to be possible on all different screens sizes.

This is how fullscreen images work and unfortunately there isn't anything that can be done to avoid the cropping. Please see the cropping of the images present also in our online demo site here:  https://king-theme.myshopify.com

To minimize the cropping, please use a 1920 x 1040px size for the uploaded images ( Homepage sections) and also please try keep all the important images content (like text for example) towards the center of the image.
